The Division will be made into a movie

Tom Clancy’s The Division will be adapted into a film, Ubisoft announced this morning, joining Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs in its stable of movie projects underway.

Jessica Chastain, nominated for an Academy Award in Zero Dark Thirty, and Jake Gyllenhaal, who was nominated for an Oscar in 2005’s Brokeback Mountain, are attached to the project through their production companies, which will develop the movie along with Ubisoft Motion Pictures.

Last month, Variety reported that a Division film was in the works with Gyllenhaal set to star and produce. Ubisoft’s news release this morning did not specify his role or roles with the film, nor Chastain’s.

“Attaching Jake and Jessica is part of our development philosophy of working closely with top talent from the earliest stages to collaborate on a high quality film,” Matt Phelps, the vice president of Ubisoft Motion Pictures, said in a statement.

Ubisoft has made a strong push into the motion picture business over the past three years, beginning with Assassin’s Creed, which finished filming back in January and is due for a Dec. 21 premiere. New Regency, the studio partnering with Ubisoft on Assassin’s Creed, is also collaborating with the publisher on adaptations for Watch Dogs and Splinter Cell.

Tom Clancy’s The Division launched March 8 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. Ubisoft’s statement today touted The Division‘s launch as “the biggest first week ever for a new video game franchise,” eclipsing Destiny‘s 2014 debut.
